Although there's no direct logout option in the Facebook Messenger app for Android or iOS, this article describes how to disconnect your account from the Messenger app (essentially the equivalent of logging out) without having to delete the app from your device.

The issue is that the messenger app doesn’t actually have an option to log yourself out. This is unlike many other apps where you have a clear button or option to sign out from your account. However, there are some ways to log out of Facebook Messenger on your devices.

Steps to Log out from Android Devices

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone to access your Android device’s settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap on the Apps & Notifications options.
  3. Scroll down from your applications till you find the Messenger app.
  4. Click on the app and you’ll find Storage option .

Click on Storage and select Clear Data and Clear Cache.

Steps to log out of From an iOS:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your iOS device.
  2. Click on the More button appears at the right corner of the screen. It appears like (three lines vertically).
  3. Go to Settings and Privacy.
  4. Scroll down and go to Security and select Security and login.
  5. You’ll see the list of devices where you are logged in.
  6. Select the Messenger session and click on Log out.
